The Mosque got its name due to its position between two other Muslim temples (‘orta’ is middle in Turkish). It was built in 1880s and is the only surviving Mosque in Batumi. As with all other religious monuments, it was closed during the Soviet era. In 1990s renovation works were carried out and the Mosque resumed its spiritual and cultural services.
