To call the weekly 'Carubbian Festival' a tourist trap wouldn't do justice to the energetic people of San Nicolas. Locals refer to this village located on the far eastern side of the island as 'the forgotten town', so the place has been revived with a street fair with dancers, live music and homemade food every Thursday evening. If you don't have your own car or are afraid of driving on the dark, poorly-lit roads, just buy an all-inclusive package with an admission ticket to the venue, which is actually just a closed-off main street. Vouchers for a meal at the food stalls, drinks and a seat for the parade of local entertainers are handed out at the entrance. Local entrepreneurs sell handicrafts from their booths and we recommend the delicious smelling coconut candles. The four-hour 'show' is too long for some, but it's a good way to soak up the relaxed Aruban lifestyle in a fun atmosphere. Tickets prices vary but you can expect to pay between $40 - 50.
