Science Park Monuments

Science Park ,   Oost         more than a year ago
As you wander around the 70 hectares of Science Park Amsterdam in Oost you might notice what look like white tree stumps littered about the place. These 40 intriguing works of art laden with symbolism known as the Wortelproject are in fact the brainchild of designers Barbara Recourt and Fons Broess. Although they are often used as seating for local students, professors, scientists and businessmen who work or study in the Science Park, they signify the roots of science and humanity and how all things in the cosmos are connected to one another.
The Steps of Science: 48 Tiles of Organised Knowledge is another interesting work of art available to the public at the park. Designed by Nienke Korthoff, these 48 animated paving tiles depict all of the work and research that goes on behind closed doors at the Science Park and represent the thirst for knowledge that the park’s professors, students and entrepreneurs all share.
Finally, a unique tunnel open to pedestrians, cyclists and cars has been transformed into an artistic and technological marvel with the help of cleverly placed LED lighting that changes according to the ambient light available outside and the movement of traffic within the tunnel. Walk or ride through the tunnel and see what Raw Paradise is all about.
