It's actually the fastest way of getting around the city centre, but don't expect a cheap ride as it's also the most expensive way of travelling in Amsterdam. Believe it or not you have to order the taxi 24 hours in advance.
As I live in Amsterdam, I advice everybody to NEVER take a fietstaxi or taxi whenever. Not only are they overpriced, but fietstaxis take up all of the bicycle lanes and are considered very anti social by locals. You will not make yourself popular. . . Normal taxis charge you a nominal fee of 7.50 euro's for the first 2km and they expect a tip as well! Be especially careful on national holidays like Queensday or Christmas, they could charge you 50 euro's a ride for a drive around the corner! My advice: rent a bike, 10 euro's a day and you will get some excercise as well.
