While explorer James Cook lived a frenzied life in the 18th century, the street and this pub which are named after him are reassuringly quiet. This attractive corner venue may not have the most spacious premises we've seen, but the outdoor terrace is one of the largest in Amsterdam. And due to the lack of traffic on this street, you feel like you're hanging out in a small village rather than a huge metropolis. One example of the relaxed atmosphere of this recently renovated eatery is its music policy. An old-fashioned record player and a pile of records are available to anyone who'd like to choose the vinyl soundtrack of the day.
