A dozen or so 17th-century canal houses bundled together at the quiet end of the Herengracht form this charming upmarket hotel. Each one of its 58 rooms is completely different, so accommodation is guaranteed for all tastes. The spotlessly clean, stylishly decorated rooms even include antique furniture. Its friendly, gregarious staff are walking Amsterdam encyclopaedias, but if you'd like to do some reading yourself then visit Ambassade's eclectic library, which is filled to the rafters with a wide range of books. The flower market is only a stone's throw away, which probably explains why there are fresh flowers in every nook and cranny of the hotel including the charming common lounges, which function as unofficial art galleries.
