All you need is a driving licence and a major credit card as a deposit to rent a car on St. Maarten. Some companies have minimum age restrictions. Rates are reasonable and most agencies offer unlimited mileage, pick-up, delivery and additional insurance. Driving is on the right-hand side of the road. A whole slew of car rental companies are available next to the airport. Unlike the other Dutch Caribbean islands, you can be fined for using a mobile phone while driving here.
