The speed limit is 50km/hr in built-up areas, 90-100km/hr on main roads and 130km/hr on highways. Cars must use headlights at all times and must have a spare wheel, warning triangle, spare lightbulb, first aid kit, reflective vest and, in winter, either snow chains or winter tyres. The alcohol limit is 0.05%, and EU residents should be aware that any fines and/ or driving licence points incurred whilst in Slovenia will theoretically follow you home. Slovenia's network of motorways is still relatively new and well-maintained, and driving in the country is generally easy and far more convenient than relying on public transport. The traffic information centre has road webcams and maps of current traffic problems at www.promet.si.
