Schloss Sanssouci

  Maulbeerallee, Potsdam      +49 331 969 42 00     07 May 2024
The 18th century rococo-style Palace of Sanssouci (meaning “Without Worries”) has a gorgeous approach up a flight of vineyard terraces. Frederick the Great loved his little 'Prussian Arcadia' and was buried on here at his own request. To avoid the queues, visit Sanssouci Palace with your fixed entry time (tickets.spsg.de). Underestimated but even more sumptuous are the guest apartments in the New Chambers of Sanssouci, and the Picture Gallery of Sanssouci with works by Rubens, Van Dyck and Caravaggio. The ensemble sits within the 290 hectares of Park Sanssouci, which holds a botanical garden, an Orangerie, Roman baths, the Chinese House, the New Palace, and Karl Friedrich Schinkel's Charlottenhof Palace, whose interior is perhaps the best preserved example of Schinkel's work. The hilltop Belvedere – Pfingstberg is a romantic folly lookout tower completed in 1863. (S Potsdam Central Station. From Potsdam Central Station take bus N°614, 650 or 695 to Sanssouci Palace.)
