Rapid Bucharest play most matches in Giulesti (officially the Valentin Stanescu Stadium), their traditional home close to Gara de Nord, as befitting a club with railway roots. Bigger games are played at the Arena Nationala.
Giulesti is a ground which can host 11,700 but rarely has to. Almost the entire stadium is roofless, and watching football here in bad weather can be miserable. Having said that, for a genuine football fan experience this is probably your best bet in Bucharest. Try and get a seat in Tribuna 0 or Tribuna I, and stay away from the Peluza II, where Rapid’s ultras (stop laughing) stand. To get to Giulesti, take bus 178 or the metro from Gara de Nord to Crangasi, which is a ten-minute walk away.
