Plac Nowy

Kazimierz         more than a year ago

This historic square was a Jewish market in the pre-war days, with its rotunda serving as a kosher slaughterhouse. Today you'll still find butcher shops inside, while fast food windows line the exterior - mostly selling 'zapiekanki,' the local street food. In the open trading stalls surrounding the roundhouse produce and junk are sold daily. It's a different, often unpredictable scene on the square each morning, but Saturdays are generally junk/antiques, and Sundays are for clothing (08:00-15:00). Meanwhile, Friday mornings it's a full-on rabbit swap and pigeon fair from 06:00 to 09:00 - one of the most bizarre spectacles you can possibly witness. Other markets begin around 8:00 in the morning (9:00 on Fridays) and generally end by early to mid-afternoon, depending. In the evenings, Plac Nowy turns into one of the best drinking destinations in town, lined with atmospheric bars. Hi Max, literally any day is good. There is at least one person with crates of vinyl on Plac Nowy every day. On Saturday you might find more. If you're interested in vinyl, check out our feature on record shops in Kraków: https://www.inyourpocket.com/krakow/krakow-record-stores_75720f
