The oldest remaining restaurant in town dates back to 1918 when it traded as the Cafe International run by Bronisław Kubicki and his family. A breathtaking remodelling has seen it combine period pieces like the fireplaces with a modern aesthetic look in which to enjoy Danzig/Gdańsk dishes like Marinated Matias (that's a fish!) and a Gdańsk pork chop with cabbage and potatoes, while our most recent visit saw us enjoy a delicious herring starter following by a tasty roast duck with red cabbage. Very impressive from the food, to the ambience to the service and well worth a visit. A pianist plays live every Weds to Sat from 18:00-22:00 and on Sundays from 14:00.

Kubicki was our first taste of Poland after arriving in Gdansk on Monday afternoon. We were able to get a table by the river on a beautiful, warm and sunny evening, with a view across to the Baltic Philharmonic. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive, and drink and food arrived without long periods of waiting. To start we shared a plate of assorted Gdansk dumplings stuffed with meat and cabbage, these were delicious and full of flavour. We both had fish for our main course, possibly the best fish I have had at a restaurant, cooked beautifully in saffron and on a brothy bed of vegetables. In all the five days we were in Gdansk this was by far the best food and value for money. Well worth a visit.
