Belfast & Northern Ireland

From Benone Strand's golden Blue Flag beach and Tourism Complex to the woodland idyll of Roe Valley, the Borough of Limavady packs plenty of stunning scenery into its strategically placed space.

This North West market town grew during the 17th Century Plantation but can trace its roots back to Ireland's 6th Century Celtic era. The location makes it a great starting point for exploring Derry city and the majestic Causeway Coastal Route. Binevenagh Mountain's imposing plateau provides a mighty backdrop and exhilarating launch pad for hardy hang gilders. And for those of us who prefer our terra a bit more firma, Bishops Road offers a more sedate passage to its stunning summit. Other regional highlights include Banagher Glen, home to one of Ireland's ancient oak woodlands and the North Sperrins Heritage Trail, a scenic route taking in historic and archaeological sites.

Back in Limavady itself, you can see where Jane Ross, the woman credited with notating the Londonderry Air, once lived. This famous tune became Ireland's classic Danny Boy. And the town is also the birthplace of New Zealand Prime Minister William Massey (1856-1925) whose statue stands outside the Council offices on Connell Street.

The Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre/Ionad Ealaíon agus Cultúir Ghleann na Ró is a superb facility situated at the heart of Limavady town. Recently opened, the Centre provides a dynamic year-round programme of activities, including the very best of national and international theatre, music, visual arts and heritage exhibitions, film and engaging creative learning opportunities.

Their Visitor Services Team is available to assist with any queries, provide literature, and help you plan your trip across the island of Ireland. The team can also provide friendly and helpful advice and information on the local area, including events and festivals throughout the year, and help you book accommodation locally and across Ireland. The Centre’s Gift Shop offers a range of locally made products, including Belleek Pottery, Galway Crystal, Ulster Weavers Homeware, Hand Crafted Jewellery, Souvenirs, Local Crafts, Local Maps, Posters and Postcards.
