It's the main meeting point for locals, especially during the hot summer nights. People gather here to have a chat before moving up to Castello or to some club out of town; to sit in the terraces of the many cafes and bars, sipping cocktails or Sardinian beer; or simply, to have a walk while slurping a large homemade ice-cream. Piazza Yenne is also an important cross-roads, ideally placed between Marina and Stampace, just below the Elephant Tower, at the edge of Castello. Piazza Yenne is where the state road 131 from Cagliari to Sassari used to start from, and the statue at the center of the roundabout represents King Carlo Felice, who uses his left arm to point the way. Among Sardinians, the road 131 is still nowadays called la Carlo Felice!

britain pretty good de_scription, though many do sit down to eat any time of day & night! the izzas are very good. i spent 6 days in attic flat on corner of piazza with via Azuni. the heat & noise levels were off the scale, yet i slept well overall & had a bird's eye view (kneeling @ floor-level spyholes) of Cagliari society. wide range of winers & diners from 19.30 onwards, including families with small children still running around @ 01.00, with amplified live soul music from 21.00 to 23.30. as soon as the revellers left around 4 am the cleaning brigades arrived en masse to load up the thousands of bottles for recyling & sweep, suction & wash the square. then the workers started to stroll down @ 5 am! roads clogged with tiny cars + regular ambulances crawling up the hill (hospital @ top). intensly Sard
