Slovene Ethnographic Museum
The museum's extensive collection encompasses over 30,000 artefacts that illustrate the daily lives, customs, and traditions of Slovenian people throughout history. These artefacts include traditional costumes, household items, tools, and crafts, providing a comprehensive view of Slovenian cultural heritage. The museum also features a significant collection of photographs, documents, and audiovisual materials that offer deeper insights into the social and cultural history of Slovenia.
One of the key attractions is its permanent exhibition, 'Between Nature and Culture', which explores the relationship between human life and the natural environment. This exhibition is meticulously curated to showcase the diverse ways in which Slovenian communities have adapted to and influenced their surroundings. Additionally, the museum frequently hosts temporary exhibitions that highlight specific aspects of ethnographic interest, often featuring contemporary issues and international perspectives.
The museum is also a dynamic centre for educational activities and public programs. It offers a variety of workshops, lectures, and interactive tours designed to engage visitors of all ages. These programs often include hands-on activities such as traditional craft demonstrations and storytelling sessions, making the museum a lively place for learning and cultural exchange.
The SEM is committed to accessibility and community engagement. It collaborates with local and international partners to promote cultural understanding and appreciation. The café and gift shop further enhance the visitor experience, offering a range of locally made crafts, books, and souvenirs that reflect Slovenia's cultural heritage.
