After the station was closed, the structure was dismantled and then reassembled at another location. In 1993 it was brought to the concrete podium south of the railway lines in the north of Newtown. The current location is around one kilometre from where the old station originally stood in the Johannesburg city centre.
Aside from the unique and gritty sense of history that the space enjoys, it is also endowed with great views over the city and is hired out as a venue for pop-up markets, concerts and festivals.
