We'll admit that we were fairly clueless when it came to Afghan cuisine, but that was before we paid a visit to host Akram Sattary's Afghan Anar. We can now at least say that we loved the food at this pleasant locale next to Limmatplatz. We ordered one of its specialities, the mantu dumplings, and can report that the dough was soft, the beef filling with herbs was tasty and the accompanying lentil sauce with pomegranate kernels was a perfect match. The cooks here also seem to possess some artistic skills, as the dumplings looked incredibly intricate and difficult to produce. However, the vegetable soup we had for a starter was in no way inferior to the main course. If you do visit Anar, definitely take a peek at the loo. The decorations in there are simply awesome.
