A phrontistery (from the Greek phrontistes or thinker) is a place for reflection and intellectual stimulation. This home away from home hidden behind Bourbaki offers just that. Enter through a living room space, which takes you to the kitchen area, complete with refreshments, before reaching a covered outdoor terrace in the back. It hosts low-key events such as acoustic concerts, readings and workshops (check its website for a calendar of events). You can show your gratitude for the drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and the free cultural programme by leaving a donation in the piggy bank in the kitchen. This 'honour system' reflects the concept of the place: to give people a sense of community and an opportunity to re-connect with themselves and each other. This kind of space is rare in Lucerne and, not surprisingly, brings together a mixed crowd.
