Formerly the vaguely Art-Decoey, but clearly outdated Pasaż restaurant, the owners have stripped the fittings to open Śródmieście ('Downtown') - the most exciting bar opening in recent memory, in a town where the unveiling of anything new is ample cause for animated curiosity. In this case, you can even celebrate, because this friendly locale firmly establishes itself among the half-dozen or less decent places for a drink in Tarnów. Despite the demo work, they've kept the curves and large circular booths of the old design, filling in around them with trendy trappings like exposed brickwork, colourful retro wallpaper, unique light fixtures and random marquee signs. There's a changing stable of Polish microbrews, an excellent menu of cheap pub eats and beer snacks - including bagels, quesadillas and burgers, and teles for league matches, plus weekly promotions and other events to keep things interesting. The whole package, Śródmieście has basically set a new standard for the competition going forward.
