Discover more about Soweto after dark with Soweto Night Out, an adventure that blends Soweto street life and culture into a nightlife experience. Soweto Night Out was founded by Nomsa Mazwai, who also started FunkItImWalking, an initiative making it safer for women to walk in Soweto at any time of day. Led by knowledgeable guides, this unique tour begins with a convenient shuttle service from Rosebank, whisking you away to explore the lively streets and rich heritage of Soweto.

Soweto Night Out tours cover about 7,000 steps, taking in historic sites, and bringing the stories and heritage of Soweto to life. There's also a chance to indulge your senses with dinner and drinks at a popular local restaurant, where you can savour authentic kasi (township) cuisine.

The tours have different routes and safety is a top priority throughout the night, ensuring you can relax and take it all in. Depending on the tour, you can enjoy nighttime access to historic sites, music events, and culinary delights. We attended the pre-launch event and highly recommend this unique experience.

Soweto Night Out offers five routes within Soweto and one in historic Sophiatown, available year-round. Whether you’re passionate about history, local food, or music, there’s something for every taste.

Soweto Night Out's popular walks, including the #Rebel Walk, run daily but are especially busy on the first Thursday of each month from 17:00 to 22:00. It is a journey through history where the June 16 Uprising's significant landmarks are visited. See Tsietsi Mashinini's home, the main student leader of the June 16 Soweto Uprising, visit the Hector Pieterson Memorial Museum for profound insights, discover Soweto's vibrant heritage at several cultural stops, and visit the Credo Mutwa Cultural Village with panoramic views and prophetic murals, before ending the night with a local beer and rustic dinner at Native Rebels

Soweto Night Out #RebelWalk tour including transfer from Rosebank is R950 p.p. (includes transport from Fournos in Dunkeld with home drop-off within 5km of Fournos, a dinner, two cocktails, and a wine goodie bag).  #RebelWalk tour excluding transport is R250 p.p. – R450 p.p.
