Known as the ‘Y Gogarth’ in Welsh, the Great Orme (Old Norse for ‘sea serpent’, if you were wondering) is a massive limestone headland that juts out off the coast at Llandudno, although it is far too huge for the word ‘jut’. This thing is ginormous, stretching more than 200 metres into the air and more than two miles in circumference, meaning ‘ginormous’ might be an understatement. It is a site of seemingly endless curiosity, with a fantastic variety of flora and fauna complimented by a huge number of natural wells, as well as one of the most picturesque churches in Wales. The views from the top are every bit as incredible as you assume. The Great Orme Tramway and Llandudno Cable Car have both been constructed to help visitors get to the top, but you can also drive up here with your own wheels (or even walk, if you’re looking to build up quite a bit of sweat). There isn’t a huge amount at the summit, but the views are worth it.
