Located just outside the city of Bangor, Penrhyn Castle is a National Trust property that might not inspire as much amazement as other castles in the area but is well worth checking out and taking approximately a zillion photos of. It was Ioan ap Gruffudd who developed this former mansion into a fortress in the 15th century, although you don’t need to be a marauding army to attack it on the modern age. It costs £14 for adults to enter the castle, but the three-mile walk to and from is absolutely free and doesn’t stop you taking photos of the fantastical exterior.
