A seemingly humble little cottage made of stone on the slopes of the Nantlle Valley just outside of Caernarfon, there is more to Cae’r Gos than meets the eye. This was the childhood home of Kate Roberts, the so-called Queen of Our Literature and one of the most important figures in Welsh-language cultural history. The cottage and surroundings informed much of her work, and she was so upset at finding the house derelict in the 1960s that she bought it herself and began work on fixing it up. A heritage centre tells her tale, and at certain times of the year you can explore the house and shake hands with one of the most important figures in Welsh history.
