Named for a 16th century monk from a nearby monastery, de Adami wines are produced by the Sljeko family in the village of Zalošče, just a few steps from the Italian border in the far west of the windswept Vipava Valley. The village also lends its name to the wine, which is often locally referred to as Zaloščan. Don't let the history, geography or semantics distract you from the stuff in the glass though, as its some of the best you'll find, especially the older vintages. A fifth-generation winemaker, Anton Sljeko says that he puts a bit of his soul into each bottle, which goes some way to explaining it.
