Bask in the reflected glory of the Doulton Fountain on your arrival to the People’s Palace, a gift to Glasgow by Henry Doulton which has now been lovingly restored to its former glory. The Palace was built in 1898 for the benefit of the working class inhabitants of the east end of the city. It’s a delightful social history museum where you can find out how the people of Glasgow lived from1750 until the present day. Recreations of a wash house and an air raid shelter with it’s eerie siren bring the exhibits to life. An eclectic mix of historic artifacts including Billy Connolly’s ridiculous 1970s banana boots and the recreation of the infamous ‘single end’ one roomed flat, home to generations of families, make this truly the good folk of Glasgow‘s very own museum.
