The collection at the Shilov gallery currently numbers more than 900 works and is constantly growing. It is located in the historical center of Moscow, not far from the Kremlin, in an old mansion that was constructed by the well-known Russian architect Y. Tyurin in 1930s. A new building was recently joined with the original one but was designed strictly in keeping with the original architectural style. The harmony of painting, architecture and classical music create a special atmosphere of spirituality and beauty throughout the halls. Shilov's portrait gallery will show you the diverse and complex picture of life in Russia. The permanent exposition comprises lyrical landscapes and still lifes. On Saturdays you can enjoy classical music concerts in the halls of the gallery.
The Alexander Shilov Gallery is a grand exhibition of the Soviet/Russian artist’s works. Shilov is known for painting ceremonial portraits and the gallery consists of three floors of his greatest works. Shilov was born in the Soviet Union and rose to a great level of prominence in the artistic world, and in 1985 he was named the People’s Artist of the USSR. Shilov’s works are predominantly oil on canvas, and the paintings display a striking likeness to their subject. Shilov, like his contemporary Glazunov, is a beloved favorite of Vladimir Putin, who even sent the artist a telegram on his 70th birthday!
