Super central (less than 5 minutes walk from Red Square) and decorated in shabby-chic glamour, 5462 serves mainly Georgian cuisine. The '5642' in its name refers to Mout Elbrus's western peak, which at 5642 metres tall is the highest point in Russia (and indeed, in Europe). A bold statement, therefore – but one that the restaurant lives up to, providing food and service that definitely rank amongst Moscow's high points. The waiting staff are particularly excellent, happy both to explain dishes and warn for food that may not be to a patron's taste, such as the weird-to-British-tastebuds Kalmyk tea, made with black tea, milk, butter and salt. The bustling open kitchen sends food out fast, and the food is divine. Try the Georgian speciality Khachapuri, fresh bread and molten cheese making for a hearty meal.
