The most anticipated art event in Bucharest had its grand opening yesterday
evening and we were among the first people to see what this year’s edition is
all about.
   Hosted in the beautiful Oscar Maugsch Palace located in University Square, the
sixth edition of Art Safari is everything you would expect and more. As you
enter the Palace, the first thing you’ll want to explore is the Central Pavilion
with „Repvblica. About shadows in sculpture”, an exhibition of Romanian
sculpture created as a poetic meditation about the different functions of
shadow and sculpture. This pavilion is filled with artworks made by renowned
artists, but it also includes the four statues in front of the Oscar Maugsch
Palace that were put in a new light (and shadow) especially for this event. The
highlighting of these well-known statues is meant to remind the passers-by of
the history behind them and dare the viewer to look at them differently.
   The next on your list should be the Museum Pavilion that holds ”Tonitza and
the Childhood Genius”, the largest exhibition dedicated to the great Romanian
painter Nicolae Tonitza in the last 50 years and the star of the event. Everyone
was excited to admire Tonitza’s masterpieces gathered from prestigious
museums and private collections from all over Romania and Europe. The main
theme of this exhibition is the universe of childhood, and there are several
rooms where you can get lost in the magic of the universe of innocence
Nicolae Tonitza created in his paintings.
   The Supercontemporary Pavilion will take you by surprize with some fresh
Romanian artists and their contemporary art gathered together in the „Young
Blood. The Art of Your Times” exhibition. These young artists succeed in
putting a smile on your face by playing with themes such as love and destiny,
but they also intrigue you with pieces about climate change, fake news and
corporate work. It’s impossible not to find something you can relate to here.
   The International Pavilion with its exhibition “Made in China” brings new
artworks shown for the first time in Europe that will take you through a
journey into contemporary Chinese art. Here you’ll see how these young
Chinese artists transformed the essence of the Traditional Chinese spirit into
Contemporary works of art.

   Another exciting thing about this year’s Art Safari is that in the following days
two educational programs will take place here- Art Talks and Art Safari Kids.
Art Talks will bring together people who love to talk and learn about art
through a series of conferences supported by renowned speakers, while Art
Safari Kids is all about teaching children how to create art by participating in
different art workshops.

   This was a great experience for everyone and it’s definitely something you
shouldn’t miss if you’re in Bucharest between September 27th and October

   The exhibitions are open daily from 12:00 to 21:00 with the exception of
Sunday when they close at 24:00.
