Cogiteon: Małopolska Science Centre

Opened in June 2024, this modern interactive science museum is Kraków's big-budget answer to similar family-oriented STEM centres in Warsaw and Gdynia. Billed as an innovative and multifaceted cultural institution that will educate through play and experimentation, while encouraging independent thought, creativity and curiosity, the uniquely triangular building offers an abundance of interior space for interactive exhibits and workshop laboratories, plus a conference centre, shop and budget family-friendly restaurant (open 12:00-18:00; Fri-Sat 12:00-20:00; closed Mon). Located at the former Rakowice-Czyżyny airport, the building features a public rooftop garden (great for watching the sunset, and open after the Centre closes) and is surrounded by a park with a spiffy, science-themed playground. Inside, the main exhibition, called 'Man and his Dreams,' covers over 2,200m2 with over 100 interactive displays designed for all ages, while a separate 150m2 'Children's Academy' is aimed at kids aged 3-6.

Unfortunately, visitor reviews have not been kind to Cogiteon. There have been complaints about many stations of the exhibit not working properly, and some visitors have also been disappointed by the organisation of the exhibits and lack of explanations. On the other hand, the architecture of the building itself, and the surrounding greens areas, including the roof garden, have gotten positive responses. During a visit to the site in winter 2026 - that did not include the exhibits - we found the restaurant a great value, the roof garden a bit underwhelming, and the fun outdoor playground underrated. For sure the many top-rate laboratories here are an amazing place for workshops and the Children's Academy looks like the perfect place for small tykes (and birthday parties). We're reserving judgement on the exhibits until we hear word that the kinks have been ironed out.
Every city in Europe needs its own interactive mega science museum - or does it?

Average visiting time: 2-3hrs.
