With his signature charcoal and pastel, Phillemon Hlungwani brings to life a world vibrating with colour, pattern, and humanity. "Your eye must travel," the artist says of the way the marks and figures draw ones gaze across an image. Translated as 'stories from a place I call home', the solo exhibition Mitsheketo Yale Makaya is a commentary on home, people, and a community, with many pieces that speak to the artist's experience directly. We see women walking to church, children playing hekeleheke- hekee! (Ring a Ring o' Roses), and water carriers in these works, depicting moments of quiet beauty and depth.
