Referred to as ‘Piazza Eleonora’ by locals, this square is the heart of social and political life in Oristano. Most of the municipal authorities overlook this piazza from its elegant buildings: the neoclassical Scolopi Palace (Palazzo degli Scolopi) is the Town Hall, and the 19th century Campus Colonna Palace (Palazzo Campus Colonna) also houses some local authority offices. A magnificent statue of giudicessa (ruler) Eleonora d’Arborea was erected in the centre of the square in 1881.
