Gleaming marble counters, dark wood panelling, stained glass chandeliers and framed Americana prints and magazine covers lend a NYC Central Station-inspired art deco ambience to this impressive downtown dining space. Part of the Park Inn hotel, this elongated, elegant restaurant runs from cosy booths with plasma screens near the entrance, to low level fireside armchairs in the middle and sofas and tables towards the back. The secluded mezzanine level is ideal for parties and corporates and the outdoor smoking terrace must be one of the city's most stylish. Steaks, scallops and chicken served with sauces and sides, including big chips (five fill the plate!), reflect the upmarket bar food menu. Chocolate brownies and classic ice creams are among the desserts, and plenty of tea and coffee choices make this a good pre or post shopping option for tired limbs and weary wallets.

We ate there last night, wanting to get a quick meal. I ordered the free-range chicken for £12 with a side of chips for an extra £2.50. The chicken was a large breast, but had expected more for the money, it was cooked to a high standard, but was really salty. The special RBG sauce was green mush and tasteless, and there was a pile of salad leaves at least twice the size of the chicken with no dressing (that I could taste), and I couldn't be sure that it had been cleaned properly. My boyfriend had the Gourmet burger for £10 including chips, which is better pricewise, but he also found his really salty. The staff were friendly enough, but when it came to paying I had to go up to the staff and ask them despite attempts to get their attention in a very quiet restaurant. Apart from the salt and the salad, the food was nice, but very overpriced. Drinks weren't cheap either with a small glass of wine setting you back £4. I won't be going back.

I stayed last weekend at the Park Inn hotel and my husband and I ate in RBG for dinner on the Saturday evening. I ordered the hangar steak and my husband had the sirloin, both were delicious and cooked just right. The best bit was the large chunky chips which came in their own "mini chip pan" basket and chimmichurri sauce! We shared a Chocolate brownie for dessert and really enjoyed it too.

My husband and I decided to try RBG for food last week as we had been in the bar previously and thought the interior was very impressive. However, we were both very disappointed with the food and standard of service. My husband ordered the slow cooked lamb shank and I ordered the Cajun burger. The food was average at best but the prices were not. The lamb was cooked so badly that a lot of the meat would not come off the bone. The burger was advertised as spicy but was bland and contained a cheese slice rather than proper cheese!! For the price they are charging you would expect much better quality. I ordered an orange cordial to drink which was weak despite the fact that I was charged £1.25 for it!! When we finished our dinner we were left sitting for ages waiting to have the plates cleared - eventually we got fed up and went to the bar to pay - the waitress did not even ask how the meal was (probably just as well!!), she didn't even ask if it was the bill we were after, she simply stated the price and put her hand out for the money. Needless to say we will not be back.
