This red sandstone and black granite building was opened in 1888 - the same year Belfast achieved city status. A grand staircase sweeps upward from the ground floor, and the first floor Reading Room boasts a fine domed ceiling. Should you be inspired to peruse the tomes, head for the particularly renowned Belfast Ulster and Irish Studies Library and Music Library.
