Immediately west of the city in the small settlement of Vodoča, the origins of this beautiful monastery complex stretch back as far as the 7th century although the buildings that now sit on the site are considerably newer. Seriously damaged by an earthquake in 1931 but soon fully restored to its original splendour, of particular interest is the 12th-century church from which the monastery gets its name, which despite having received many changes in its appearance over the years remains stunning inside, with some truly outstanding examples of Byzantine painting. The other two churches on the site are also worth visiting.
