22 Jul 2024
Stag do's are perhaps the bit that is most anticipated, whether or not it’s admitted. Usually, the best man is the one to take on the responsibility of planning the trip, and it’s actually a lot of pressure. It’s also a logistical nightmare to organise a trip for 5 to 15 blokes. But, don’t let this get you down. With just a few tips and some foresight, you can make it a memorable weekend with no slip-ups.

Itinerary Planning

Many people begin with the destination, so let’s try something different. Focus on what you want to do first - what are the interests of the groom and the friend group? Off the bat, you can decide on the tone of the trip. Are they a rowdy bunch who want nightlife? Are they mostly introverts, because some nature-based water activities might be better suited? Or something in-between. Some classics are go-karting and brewery tours, but something a little different like a gun shooting range might be even more memorable.

Choosing the Destination

Once you’ve decided on the activity and tone, you can now decide on a destination. For example, outdoor activities may be in the countryside, while nightlife is in a city. Sometimes you can get lucky, with the likes of Prague having a shooting range, go-karting, and world-famous breweries all in close proximity. Budget will play a part too, as well as whether or not the group is up for going abroad or not. Some suggestions are Barcelona, Prague, Amsterdam, and Vegas.

Accommodation Tips

You have two options here: you either book rooms in a hotel/hostel or you pay for one big space, like an AirBnB lodge or apartment. Be sure to book in advance and ring the establishment before booking to ensure they can accommodate all of you, and if there’s a discount. Generally, the more of you there are, the more economical a single house becomes. Don’t place too much emphasis on the amenities if you’re going out all day and night. But, it may be a good idea to get a place with a hot tub or pool if you’re looking to have a night-in.

Managing Group Dynamics

Stag do's often involve diverse groups. Use group chats to discuss plans and budgets. Be warned, there will always be one or two that take a while to reply or won’t give a straight answer on if they can attend. Ideally, you will get those straight answers early on but be understanding that people will have different budgets. The best way around this is to come up with a rough idea of activities/locations, then put it to the group members with a rough price and a date of when you need to know by.

Packing Essentials

Consider themed outfits for specific activities or nights out - the more attention you can give the groom, the better. Don’t forget chargers and any special items for planned activities, and try to have a plan for your data when over there - you’ll need it to find your activities. Check the weather forecast and have a plan B.

Conclusion

A well-planned stag do can provide lasting memories. By considering these travel tips, you can ensure a fun, safe and unforgettable experience for everyone involved. Start planning early and communicate clearly for the best results. Enjoy the celebration and make it a trip to remember.
