Opened in July 1938, this compact menagerie covers 16 hectares of hilly terrain a couple of kilometres east of the city centre. Home to over 250 species, alongside the lions, tigers, monkeys and other more conventional animals find performing seals, exotic fish, a well-stocked reptile house and plenty of creepy insects. Keep an eye out for the colourful glass tiles made by children from Lithuania and the United States as you enter.
