Food is closely tied to culture and national survival, so the whole ‘British Empire’ thing meant that what we know as ‘traditional English food’ is a bit of a misnomer. It could be a lot of things when it comes to what is on the plate, after all. But there is definitely a traditional environment awaiting, be it the cosy surroundings of the pub, a piping-hot newspaper full of fish and chips or even local ingredients vaguely resembling recipes from yesteryear. All of these places are undeniably ‘Leeds’, yet all offer something different. Bloomin’ tasty too.
