When an old friend took us for a post-brunch sugar-fix at a place called Milk when we were visiting her in Los Angeles back in 2008, we had no idea that the newly-opened and soon-to-be famous all-day dessert restaurant was owned by Lebanese expat Nayla Audi. And if you're one of those people who always know how a story is going to turn out, then you've surely already guessed that this is where we tell you Oslo was opened by the very same Ms Audi, giving it a impressive pedigree that has thrived for a decade in LA's cutthroat culinary scene. Widely considered to be the best ice cream in Beirut, this tiny Mar Mikhael shop looks like something out of a Wes Anderson film, which obviously only adds to the charm. But like most superlatives in the city the prices are similar to what you might find in Norway, which at least in this case is fitting given the name.
