This museum is housed in an apartment where one of Latvia’s best art nouveau architects once lived – Konstantīns Pēkšēns. The prolific artist and engineer who was responsible for the creation of no less than 250 buildings in Riga also designed this impressive edifice. The historic house was also home to the illustrious painter Janis Rozentāls and the writer Rūdolfs Blaumanis to whom another museum is dedicated on the top floor. View period furniture and artwork from one of the Latvian capital’s most creative eras. A must see. Don't miss the grand staircase!

Must see in Riga is surely Alberta Street with the Art Nouveau Museum.

The admission charge has now increased to 2.00 lats and goes up further to 2.50 in May, but it will still be worth it, given that so much has now been opened. Do talk to the guides, who are charming, multi-lingual and very knowledgeable.

They have recently expanded by adding a few rooms. (The price is still one lat). Lots of little jugendstil knick knacks. Nice store with real jungend lampens across the street.

The museum is small, but a gem. The one lat admission fee is well worth it since the staff gives tours and know several languages. It didn't take too long either as the space is not very large.
