Popular with local families not in the mood to take the train to Jūrmala, this island in the middle of the Daugava river has been transformed into a recreation area by the city. It has a small beach, an outdoor terrace, beach volleyball courts, picnic areas, including one that’s hidden in the woods, and lots of green open space for sunbathing and sports. Walk or cycle across the underground passage of the Salu Bridge to the island.
