One of Riga's most celebrated fine dining restaurants, Kaļķu vārti is located in a charming 17th-century building in Old Riga complete with restored wooden ceilings, a brick floor and a fantastic inner courtyard featuring medieval tombstones embedded in its walls. The international and Latvian cuisine, however, is a more modern affair and is prepared by high-end chefs who place an emphasis on locally-sourced ingredients. Excellent desserts, wine and spirits are, of course, also available as well as a weekday lunch special.
