The place to visit if you’re looking to hit your daily calorie quota in one meal. Huge portions of standard Polish fare cascade off the steel pans and wooden boards they’re served on, while uniformed staff weave between the bench seating serving frothing steins of lager. Great for groups and families, kids have their own large rumpus area, while the grown-ups soak up the beer hall atmosphere shouting over energetic live folk music. Litre beers are encouraged and half-price on Mondays, and there's a handy 'vomitorium' in the men's room - i.e, two enormous steel basins for those suffering from over-consumption to hock up their recently imbibed pork hocks. Now a second location in the Cloth Hall (Restauracja Sukiennice).

Where there yesterday - and got the lausiest service from a redhair girl. Sat on the balcony. Took 15 min to get something to drink, half of it came and the rest after another 15 min. All other tables got service emiedietly from other straff, but the redhair kept turning her back to our table. Got the food 30 min. after ordering - OK food, but after finnished eating - and waiting 20 min. for the redhair to shove up, we had to ask another girl for the bill. STILL nothing - after another 10 min. I went inside and stood by the staffcounter, then it looked like somebody told the redhair that we were still waiting!! Sorry for the 10 sloty we gave in tips - we did'nt have less. Think the redhair girl need to find out WHY she is there - a bit of service had been nice....!!!

This is perfect place to eat with the kids as there is special room for families including big playing area. Portions are huge, we're surprised with the size of beer glass as well! Food is delicious, atmosphere is good but the service isn't excellent. Be warned that you can pay by cash or by Visa only.

I thought this place was probably the best value for money that I have been to outside of america!!!I do agree that portions are too big I had a officers platter. It had steak chop, pork chop, chicken chop, liver, bacon, blood sausage(basically black pudding) and a normal pork sausage with chipped potatoes, salsa, cabbage and mint cabbage for 6 pounds who can really argue with that!!!We went back a 2nd time on my birthday and had a starter of soup each and a skewer of pork between 4 of us(which also cost 6 pounds between us) and it was enough. The waiters were lovely and brought out a slice of birthday cake for me which I thought was lovely. And just another tip the tiramsu is to die for and also the lemon shots are worth a try too!!!

I agree with jim smith. Absoloutely my worst restaurant experience ever. After waiting for an hour we called over the waitress we've been told that she forgot to put our order in. I would not recomended it

service in pod wawelem is the worst ive ever had.Never got our meal and when we walked out they had the cheek to ask for money for looking after your coat. I would stay clear of this. Food looks big because they put lots of horrible cabbage that everyone leaves. I would not go back if you paid me

An excellent restaurant, very nice local atmosphere. The portions are (too!!) big. The waiter should tell to the customers, that the portions are huge. Two or three people coud share one portion. We felt sorry to vaste so much food, but it was impossible to eat it to the end. Tasty food and lovely live music. Best wishes from Two happy grand mothers, visited Pod Wawelem the 20.th and 23.th april 2010.

Beware. First of all, the food and ambience were excellent. However when it came time to pay our bill, they were insistent we pay by cash. When using visa, they cancelled our payment 3 times, and insisted we use a signature or else pay cash. They refused to accept our pin code. It all was very shady, and to top it off they had their gorilla close by to try and intimidate us. A bad taste was left to an otherwise pleasant evening.

The Pod Wawelem has very good food in wonderful surroundings at very reasonable pricing. Comfortable seating in the main dining beer hall or in the glassed-in porch. The included kapusta, pickles and berry wine are a treat. When the trio is playing their music, this place is heaven, especially for the weary traveler. A soothing experience where you feel like a local, not a tourist.

This is an excellent restaurant. The food is very good, and reasonably priced. The highlight of our many visits here, during our one week in Krakow, was the friendliness and attention of the staff. They were all very pleasant, led by the lovely Kasia, who seemed to be the manageress.I would recommend this place to all who visit Krakow. There are various offers on each night, but they are not needed. The volume of patrons here speak for themselves. I always try to eat where the locals eat, it is a good recommendation, and many of the customers were local people. Do not miss a visit to Pod Wawelem!!
