The Sasol New Signatures award is renowned for launching the careers of many exciting contemporary young artists, some of whom have gone on to major international acclaim. This year's competition is themed 'Art Beyond Imagination’, a theme which speaks to "a celebration of the borderless human consciousness, the boundless skill and infinite vision of the artist, and the limitless inspirational power of art".
As always the competition is open to South African artists aged over 18 working in all mediums, who have not yet held a solo exhibition.
The finalists and winner of the award will be announced on Wednesday August 24 and all the winning works by this year's finalists go on display in a special dedicated exhibition at Pretoria Art Museum. The winner of the Sasol New Signatures 2022 award also receives R100,000 and the opportunity to host a solo exhibition at the museum. The runner-up receives R25,000 and the five 'merit award' winners R10,000 each.
HOW TO ENTER WORKS INTO SASOL NEW SIGNATURES 2022
The competition is open to all South African artists aged 18+ who have not yet hosted their own solo exhibition. Artists can submit up to two artworks for consideration in any artistic medium.On Tuesday June 7 and Wednesday June 8 artists are invited to submit their artworks at one of several collection points around the country in Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Gqeberha, Pretoria and Polokwane.
Sasol New Signatures have also put together extensive information with tips and advice to consider when submitting works for this year's competition. In particular, their video information session detailing everything you need to know about submitting works, including how to make sure they are 'hang ready' and the types of works that can be submitted for the award, is a must-watch.
