The festival is also a unique opportunity to explore the zoo after dark, and see nocturnal animals at their most active. The lights used for the festival displays are LEDs so as not to be disruptive to animals, and certain areas of the zoo will remain off-limits during the evening to ensure those animals who usually sleep are not disturbed. A selection of animal enclosures are open during the evening, specifically those around the illuminated walkways.
Visitors are welcome to bring your own picnic (strictly no alcohol) and camp chairs and there's also a selection of food and drink stalls on the night. If you are looking for gifts there's a pop-up art and crafts market with handmade festive items such as Christmas decorations on sale.
