The Johannesburg Heritage Foundation's (JHF) Trio of Churches walking tour explores three sites of spiritual significance on Joburg's 'Holy Corner' on Sat, Apr 12, 2025. Book your tickets here

Led by JHF's Flo Bird, Kathy Munro, Athena Clayton, and Boitumelo Moletsane, this walking tour is a chance to explore the three churches of the so-called 'Holy Corner' at the intersection of Smit and Wolmarans Streets in the City Centre. These include the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St Constantine and St Helen, the First Church of Christ Scientists, and the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Christ the King. "Five decades separate the oldest from the most recent, but all three are beautiful and have qualities reflecting their varying beliefs and the tastes of the times," writes the JHF.

Two of the three churches were designed by Jewish architect Hermann Kallenbach, while the Catholic cathedral was designed by architect Brian Gregory from Belfast in Northern Ireland. As a trio, they display wonderful stained glass, an abundance of icons, and fine timber and stone work.

Just in time for Easter, the Trio of Churches tour takes place on Sat, Apr 12 from 14:00 – 16:30, and gives you the rare opportunity to explore some of Joburg's most beautiful spaces. Tickets cost R180 per person for JHF members, and R290 per person for non members. Book now

Note: Parking is available on the grounds of the Cathedral of Christ the King, 186 Nugget Street, Berea. Enter from Smit/Nugget Street.
