Bunratty Castle and Folk Park

This is one of Ireland's bigest tourist attractions and with good reason. The Castle, built over a 10th Century Viking stronghold by the Normans, is the most complete medieval fortress in Ireland, dating back to the mid-15th Century, and has a terrific display of furniture and tapestries from that time.Within the grounds is Bunratty Folk Park, where 19th Century Irish life is vividly recreated by actors plying their trades in a reconstructed village. If you want to experience what it is like to be at a great lord's feast, here you can - places at a medieval banquet can be reserved, where you can avail of a mead reception with the Ladies of the Castle and the Earl of Thomond's butler, followed by a four course dinner, with live entertainment from harpists and violinists (17:30 and 19:45).
