The lava field landscape is easily visible all around the country, including around the Reykjavik area. There is no way you can possibly mistake it when you see it - the uneven, cooled magma, camouflaged by moss, and lasting for kilometers. You can even go and investigate the lava tubes and tunnels under the surface of the ground, as long as you follow the conventional paths and be sharply aware of your every step.
