Birds, beauty, Blato, in no particular order. Tucked away in a secluded corner of Herzegovina is Hutovo Blato, a stunning nature reserve that is home to almost 250 different kinds of migratory birds, making it the largest of its kind in the entire region. Designated as a nature park in 1995, Hutovo Blato is an explosion of karst landscape dotted with lakes, swamps and glades, each hosting a social scene of a truly unique kind. Throw in the echoes of the Ottoman-era Hutovo Fortress and the curious underwater discovery that is Desilo, and you’re onto a winner. Hutovo Blato is a 30 minute drive south of Čapljina, via Kelpci and the M6.
