Almost all international trains to and from Budapest call at Keleti station, a magnificent terminal built in the 1880s, which sadly has seen better days. Black market money changers, dodgy cab drivers and panhandlers greet you almost the moment you step off the train or walk inside. It's not dangerous per se, but keep your wits about you. The domestic and international information desk is open 24 hrs.

Getting to town: To get to the metro station (red line), go down the stairs and through the murky underpass to the outdoor plaza. The metro entrance is on the far side of the plaza.
