The diverse yet converging practices of three artists share space in the gallery's new group show, Hallowed Ground.

The gallery is a small exhibition space adjoining the atelier at 44 Stanley. Their latest group showcase, Hallowed Ground, explores themes of grounding and groundlessness, the roles of tradition and modernity, and the interplay between personal and collective recall through the work of three artists: Hedwig Barry, Fanie Buys, and John Phalane.

Employing a language of abstraction, Barry's work engages with the historical weight of painting and its connections to nature, empire, modernity, and Western aesthetics. Meanwhile Buys, a South African artist based in London, adopts a figurative style to examine the role of traditional portraiture in contemporary society. Using found images and AI, he approaches painting as a performative meditation that reveals hidden, often humorous meanings. Lastly, Phalane's textured drawings operate within multiple and shifting dimensions. His work depicts urban and residential districts in flat, squared representations that are reminiscent of street maps, but are disrupted by blue horizons and distorted perspectives.

Overall, Hallowed Ground offers a space to reflect on the many ways in which we navigate and interpret the world around us. Showing at the gallery until Thu, Oct 10
